David Hemmings, M.D.

Dr. Hemmings grew up in a medical family in Lexington, Kentucky. His father was a pediatric allergist and his mother is a registered nurse. Growing up in this environment shaped and influenced his interest in medicine and patient care. His local ophthalmologist, Dr. Gary Wallace, also made a significant impression on him at his yearly exams.
After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Medical Arts, Dr. Hemmings attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. It was there he decided to pursue ophthalmology as a career. Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Hemmings completed a transitional internship at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Hemmings is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a past president of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Hemmings has been in private practice in Douglasville, Georgia since 2000. He and his wife, Diane, were married that same year and have been blessed with two boys who they raised here and now attend college. The entire family are avid sports fans, including Kentucky basketball and Braves baseball. He and his wife enjoy cooking, traveling and hanging at home with their golden retriever.
Dr. Hemmings sees patients in the Douglasville office. He performs surgery at the Georgia Cataract and Eye Specialty Center in Carrollton.
